The
American Institute of Architects selected Detroit as one of
nine cities for its 2008 Sustainable Design Assessment Team
(SDAT) program. The SDAT will design a roadmap for improving
Detroit’s sustainability based upon local needs.
Architects,
planners, economic development specialists, and others will
assess current systems and suggest ways to improve Detroit’s
sustainability—the community’s ability to meet
the environmental, economic, and social equity needs of today
without reducing the ability of future generations to do so.
The
SDAT held a three-day charrette Oct. 30th – Nov. 1st,
2008, beginning with a Community Town Hall Meeting. Topics
included: *Detroit’s
Next Economy *Land Use *Transportation *Energy Systems *Food
Security
